BlockShow, a major global conference devoted to the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry, is making a comeback after four years, joining forces with BlockDown Festival — powered by public relations agency EAK Digital — to bring a festival-like Web3 event to Hong Kong in 2024.
First launched in 2016, BlockShow is backed by the blockchain industry publication Cointelegraph and will work closely with EAK to produce the BlockShow X BlockDown, the Asia edition, which will take place at Hong Kong’s government-backed Cyberport venue. Known for hosting prominent Web3 companies such as Animoca Brands, Cyberport is the Silicon Valley of Hong Kong and will be the primary venue for the main BlockShow X BlockDown Asia event.
The main conference will take place from May 8 to 9, 2024, and will be accompanied by side events across several additional days. Choosing Hong Kong was only natural, with the region’s growth as a global technology and Web3 hub in recent years making it the perfect location. The Cyberport will be transformed into Web3 city, with access to multiple floors, exhibition spaces, galleries, meeting zones, cafes, restaurants, workshop rooms, open-air spaces and more.

The BlockShow X BlockDown festival aims to turn Hong Kong into a Web3 city for five to seven days, featuring multiple conference stages, an art gallery, a gaming zone, a music stage, a dedicated zone for startups and venture capitalists and much more. Among its core topics, the festival will explore SocialFi, GameFi, Web3, art, music, culture, decentralized finance (DeFi) and real-world assets.
The BlockShow X BlockDown Asia event’s additional days will focus on topics like Bitcoin Ordinals, niche fields within DeFi, gaming and more. The organizers also plan to hold ice-breaking events in some of the best restaurants around Hong Kong, as well as sports-oriented networking events centered around futsal, tennis, basketball and other activities.
The BlockShow X BlockDown event wants to bring together 5,000 attendees, with early bird tickets ranging from $290 to $1,190, depending on the ticket type. The next price increase will see tickets range from $490 to $1,390.
According to BlockShow founder Addy Crezee, the Web3 industry is set for a breakthrough in 2024, with Asia positioned to spearhead the upcoming bull run due to the growing presence of builders and crypto users:
“I am eagerly anticipating the chance to create a gateway for global players, enabling them to ride the wave in Asia. Hong Kong is the perfect spot for this. Exciting times lie ahead!”
Erhan Korhaliller, founder and CEO of EAK Digital and BlockDown Festival, stated, “Partnering with BlockShow and Cointelegraph was a natural fit for BlockDown Festival and EAK Digital.” He further added:
“With the market heating up significantly, both BlockDown Festival and BlockShow are committed to hosting a world-class event that is fun and exciting to attend and focused on the attendee experience and impact.”
A true Web3 festival
BlockDown pioneered the virtual Web3 conference scene after launching in April 2020, playing a pivotal role in bringing together the crypto community during the pandemic. BlockDown attracted some of the biggest names in the industry, including former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Shapeshift CEO Erik Voorhees, Chainlink Labs co-founder Sergey Nazarov, Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, and even celebrity singer and songwriter Akon.
During the pandemic, BlockDown organized a total of six online events, including special editions such as the Spanish-speaking BlockDown Latam, and BlockDown DeData, a special event focused on decentralized data and identity that featured a fireside chat between American whistleblower Edward Snowden and Gavin Wood, founder and CEO of Parity Technologies.

The first in-person BlockDown Web3 festival took place in 2022 in Sibinik, Croatia and highlighted the intersection between Web3 and culture. The festival returned for its second in-person event in the summer of 2023 with BlockDown Portugal, featuring a metaverse fashion show, a Web3 music stage, and the participation of major global brands such as the French soccer club Paris Saint-Germain and the McLaren Formula One racing team. The event was soon followed by the second edition of the annual Istanbul Blockchain Week, also organized by EAK Digital, which took place in August 2023.

BlockShow has also organized a multitude of previous conferences, kicking off with BlockShow Europe, which took place in Munich in April 2017, when Bitcoin (BTC) was trading at around $1,200.
BlockShow has since organized three in-person events in Singapore in 2017, 2018 and 2019. In 2018, it hosted the BlockShow Americas conference in Las Vegas. Like many other global events, BlockShow paused its in-person conferences amid the height of the pandemic but continued hosting multiple online events in 2020.
“Right now, we are focused on our Asian edition and want this event to be the major industry occasion in Asia,” Crezee said, adding that BlockShow definitely plans to expand to other regions and potentially host another event in 2024.
As one of the longest-running industry events, BlockShow has historically featured many prominent figures from not only the cryptocurrency industry but also the traditional financial world, as well as from other sectors such as information and technology.
Some of BlockShow’s previous speakers include Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, Gemini founders Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, and Animoca Brands founder Yat Siu. The conference’s events have also featured Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales, veteran American venture capitalist Tim Draper, and Fundstrat head of research Thomas Lee, among many others.
The upcoming BlockShow X BlockDown conference will be a place for exclusive announcements and launch events, as well as for sharing insightful content. In addition to attracting multiple speakers and partners, BlockShow and BlockDown have previously collaborated with a diverse group of publications, including media giants like Reuters and Bloomberg, as well as blockchain industry outlets such as Decrypt, BeInCrypto, The Block and others.
“Our events have a huge impact. They are also different in terms of experience because we are more focused on community and fun experiences. So, I see a gap and lack of such events like the ones we do. That’s why we are back,” Crezee stated.
